Materials

Sim-U-Vel

Sim-U-Vel is our velvet-like flocked foam with a distinctive velour surface that produces a great impression.  Sim-U-Vel is frequently laminated to other packaging materials which create a plush appearance and feel to beautify, display and protect items from fragile and delicate to heavy and durable.

Polyurethanes

Polyether (Ether)

Ether is an open-cell flexible foam that is smooth and soft to the touch.  It exhibits cushioning properties that lend it to a wide range of applications.  Available in various colors, densities and firmness ratings, ether is a cost-effective choice.

Polyester (Ester)

Ester is a premium, open-cell flexible foam.  Compared to ether, it provides more supportive protection with better shock absorption due to its consistent and slightly smaller cell structure.  One of the distinct characteristics of ester is its sparkle which adds to its visual appeal.

It is stocked in ~2# with many color choices.

Graft (ELE)

Ether-Like-Ester is an open-cell ether foam with the look and feel of ester.  Possessing a fine cell structure with superior compression qualities, graft foam is a cost-effective option for heavier items.  It is available in a variety of colors, densities and firmness ratings.

Polyethylene (PE)

PE is a rigid, closed-cell foam.  It is resistant to water, mold, mildew, decay and is dust-free.  Available in many densities and colors, including pink anti-static, PE can be die cut, cut to size or sold as full planks.  Due to its high load bearing characteristics and shock absorbing properties, PE is often used for packaging heavy items.

Cross Linked Polyethylene (XLPE)

Cross Linked Polyethylene is a closed-cell foam with a smooth cell structure to give a contemporary, hi-tech appearance.  This is a high-strength foam, resistant to water, mold, mildew, decay and dust-free.  Originally used in the medical, dental and electronic industries, XLPE is now extensively used in all industries due to its sleek appearance and versatility.  Stocked in black and white, XLPE is also available in primary colors.

Reticulated (Filter Foam)

Reticulated foam is an open-cell polyurethane foam with a three dimensional skeletal strand structure that has been treated to provide the benefit of high tensile strength, easy fabrication and chemical resistance.  It is available in a range of pore sizes up to 100 ppi (pores per inch).  Applications for reticulated foam include filters, cosmetic applicators, sponges, brushes and many others.

Stocked in charcoal, colors are also available.

Anti-static (AS)

Anti-static foam provides properties important to sensitive electronic parts and products. AS foam is designed to eliminate static potential from the foam itself, and to dissipate electro-static discharges from other sources during handling, assembly, and shipment of the product.  Pink, in color, AS foam is available in Ether, Ester and PE foams.

Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (PSA)

PSA is an adhesive which forms a bond when pressure is applied to combine the adhesive with a product. As the name "pressure sensitive" indicates, the degree of bond is influenced by the amount of pressure which is used to apply the adhesive to the surface. Factors such as smoothness, surface energy, temperature, removal of contaminants, etc. are also important to achieve proper bonding. PSA can be used to create “peel and stick” properties or to bond materials together and is available in Acrylic or Rubber-based and Double-coated or Transfer adhesive.

Paper and Board

Kraft Paper, paperboard, corrugated or binders board is often combined with foam to provide additional rigidity for trays, displays and other packaging items.

We stock white vat, chip, SBS and solid black board ranging in caliper from .018 to .100 and corrugated sheets.

Additional Materials

Various plastics, fabrics, and materials too numerous to list, can be combined with Sim-U-Vel and/or foam to achieve the desired results for each specific application.
